A letter to my past self | Sneha Jha

Dear younger me,

I know that you had a really rough journey. You had a very wild ride and believe me when I say that it actually gets far worse but please don’t be daunted about it. You were too inexperienced and immature for this conspiring world. You were just playing with your toys and singing your rhymes when suddenly the scenario changed and, you were expected to stand strong against all sorts of atrocities of the society. You were only familiar with genuine smiles and affection but it was a complete unknown fact to you that those smiles were hideous and pretentious in this world of pseudo-ism.

They only wanted to take what they could from you. People acted as if they cared for you from the deepest corners of their hearts but little did you know that it was all a façade. The girl who was protected like the most precious flower became a puppet for this manipulating world guiding you the way they wanted.

Your innocent and fragile mind thought that everyone was treating you like the most precious being but the world just thought of you like a rag doll. I would like to pat your shoulder for rising like a Phoenix bird from the ashes every time society tried to pull you down. You were strong enough to give them a smirk and stood tall and for that, I am really proud of you.

No matter the number of trials and tribulations, you kept challenging it and showed what it is like to be a confident, bright and amazing human being. I know you were scared to talk to anyone about your feelings because the ones you had trusted deeply had given you the biggest betrayals at some moment of your life. You flashed the world; brightest of smiles even at the worst situations but deep down there I know that you were breaking inside. I just want you to give things a little break and not to take too hard on yourself.

This world taught you to give out fake smiles in order to protect yourself and to hide your weakness. You were still stuck with your trigonometry problems when you got to know that each passing day was making you stronger. You made some mistakes in the past but those are the foundation for my present day. I just wish to tell you that being lonely is still comfortable. Not being able to impress others is okay because you are not obligated to do so. Not having someone to talk to about your feelings is fine, you still shine.

Not having a shoulder to lean on when things get hard is okay, you can be your own embrace. Having a mental breakdown at times is completely fine, it doesn’t showcase that you are weak rather proves that you are on the right way to become strong.  Being able to embrace solitude is to find peace. Standing for yourself is not being disrespectful.

Each baby step of yours has now made me a better person who is more confident in herself. Dear me, I just wish you to be more carefree, happy, sarcastic, out-going, and strong. But I still adore you for who you are and because of you, I have finally headed towards knowing how to live my life in a happier way.

                                                                                                             -Yours always grateful version
