Single Mother | Poem by Sarita Neupane

Single mother, I adore you

Marveling at the strength of yours!

Struggling all alone, for the sake of your child

Taking on more than you could possibly bear

Shuffles off to work each day

Wondering whether they would ever increase the rupees in her pay.

Single mother, I adore you

Carefully juggling your career and motherhood

Searching every work, your body could even bear

Meanwhile, the child’s father doesn’t even really care

Yes! You abandoned the little girl just after twenty days of birth

Leaving her all alone here in earth

Single mother, I adore you

I admire your strength and drive

You’re strong during the day, but spend lonesome sleepless nights!

I am tucked into bed and kissed goodnight

But daddy was never there to turn off the light.

Supermom, you sacrifice your happiness and raise me right

Helps meet all my ends even when money gets too tight.

Single mother, I adore you

When pain and sickness makes me cry

You gaze upon my heavy eye

I can never repay you, mother

But I promise the world will surely see me standing high on my own

Making you proud of seeing your princess be a queen on the throne.

My single mother, I adore you

Oh! How I love you.
