Introvert life
A friendship bond between introvert and extrovert. Is it even possible?
It may seem implausible because in our general understanding introverts’ and extroverts’ contrasting personalities are like opposite sides of a pole.
But what do we know? Opposite attracts too!
So, it is possible, though building a foundation may be difficult, there is a good chance.
As an introvert, I don’t get along easily with other people. Often times, we (introverts) are mistaken as a misanthrope. Yes, we are reclusive but we love people. Extroverts too. They may be a bit extreme for our type but, we admire their enthusiastic and lively nature.
Fortunately, I have a few extrovert friends. My best friend is also an extrovert. And, believe me when I say they are the best. And, despite our contrasting personalities, we get along very well.
Introverts may need time alone to regain their energy, yet, we love being around our extrovert friends. Here’s why:
-
They respect our love for privacy
For introverts, privacy is of great essence. We use that time to regain our energy, introspect, or to have a peace of mind.
Often times, this privacy gets mistaken as being rude or shallow. So, an extrovert friend who understands that space is like the cherry on top.
Despite our differences, I love how my friends acknowledge my need for privacy. They understand my need for space and lets me be myself.
-
Source of encouragement and support
Generally, introverts hesitate to explore outdoors. A rare sight is an introvert taking risks for fun. Behind all that enthusiasm will most probably be an extrovert friend who had our back.
Extroverts are cheerful and energetic. They emit energy so much so that it is contagious. And, with such positive vibes around, one can seldom have a bad day.
When life feels low, having someone who can cheer you up is refreshing. Moreover, a constant push to become the better version of myself, I am blessed to have a best friend as my biggest motivator and supporter.
-
Enables you to have a new perspective on life
Many times, friendships don’t last because of the conflict in opinions. Therefore, building a bond between an introvert and an extrovert can be complicated.
On the flip side, the difference is what makes the bond special. That difference is an opportunity to see the world from a new perspective. Having someone cheerful and lively certainly enables us to have a different approach to life.
While writing, I always take the opinions of my extrovert friends. Their viewpoint contributes to a different stance on my writing.
-
They are good social anchors
Extroverts are outspoken and love outdoor activities. They are natural at socializing and dealing with people.
Especially, at an outdoor event, having an extrovert friend is a solace. They tend to enjoy people and making conversations are not difficult for them. A relief to introverts.
Moreover, they are the best people to party with.
I struggle to make a conversation with someone I just met. Especially when volunteering, my extroverted friend has saved the day many times. From initiating a conversation to making introductions, they are the best social anchors.
-
Our conversation savior
Besides deep talks, endless conversations are a pet peeve of any introvert. Introverts speak only when necessary. But, when in an endless conversation, we are usually clueless about ending such conversations.
Drain ourselves in an endless conversation? A nightmare for introverts. Fortunately, an extrovert friend will always be our conversation savior.
My best friend saves me often from such situations. I get stuck in such a situation. She swoops in, does her “talk things” and Viola! I am free.
I, myself as an introvert, enjoy the company of extroverts. However, limited to close ones. Their enthusiastic vibe is certainly undeniable. And personally, I think they are the best people to be with.
I think the dichotomy of extreme personalities and their friendship strikes equilibrium in life. Similar interests of two people are what matters and they can become the best of friends.
