Fame: Is it worth it? | Written by Shreeansha Bhattarai

Fame

Fame

I am sure everybody has wondered what it is like to be on the other side of the screen. What it is like to be famous? But what is fame? If we are to refer to the dictionary, then it means “public estimation.” However, is fame limited only to the public opinion of an individual?

So, what is it like being famous? People have a narrow vision of being famous, as being famous brings huge fortune to their lives. Most people are blinded by the huge opportunity to gain money. But the truth is, it is not only about money.

Yes, I agree that along with fame there is a fortune. But, to be continued in the spotlight you need to work hard. Your life won’t be as normal as before, meetings, practice, traveling will consume your time and can create problems.

The worst part about it is people tend to hate you without any valid reason.

Being loved by everyone is what everybody has been dreaming about. Everybody wants their talents to be known all around the world. They want to thrive through them.

What everyone wishes for is love and support for them as they pursue what they love.

Even though there are cons to being famous, I strongly agree that gaining fame is worth it.

Fame not only has cons, but it has some pros too. Famous people get heard very easily compared to a normal human being. An example of this is the “#Metoo” movement. This movement was popularized by a famous actress named Alyssa Milano. Being famous, you get recognized everywhere, you are given a special invitation to places.

Everybody knows your name; your family name; even your dog’s name and they seem to care. They seem to love. But, one small error and the sweet words coming from your fan’s lips become toxic.

If a model were to trip during the catwalk or if a singer were to forget their lyrics, they will receive criticism, they will receive hate.

After all, they are human too; they are prone to errors as well. It is funny, isn’t it? How a measly headline can make or break your career when you are famous?

Even after you die, the media or the opinionators will not stop. Everybody will look for someone or something to blame for. After all, a piece of spicy news is worth way more than a lousy truth.

The exaggeration, of your life and your death will not provide your family or friends the privacy and comfort they need to mourn.

In addition, while being famous, you cannot voice out your opinions. For example, standing up for what they believe got famous leaders like “Martin Luther King” and “Abraham Lincoln” assassinated. Celebrities or influential leaders are in constant peril of them getting hate.

On the other hand. Fame can prove to be very beneficial for some people. Despite all the hate and criticism, people do overcome their fears and succeed physically and mentally in their life and career.

People act as an inspiration for many people who have helped them overcome their fears. By being on the other side of the screen, you can become someone who inspires people and helps them in their life.

When talking about fame, the question is not whether it is worth it or not but it depends upon the way you view fame.
