The festival of sacrifice “Eid al Adha” | Poem by Moin Uddin

Moin Uddin

It’s a beautiful morning
The time has come to celebrate Eid al Adha
The festival of sacrifice
Which is the holiest of two major Islamic festivals celebrated worldwide.

The world doesn’t give you anything easily
It tests you before it gives you something merrily
Life is beautifully lived when sacrifice is dealt with utmost sincerity.
Oh oh happy soul happy life together we come and unite.

Eid al Adha honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim
To sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God’s command.
He was so devoted that he was willing to sacrifice his son.
But God was pleased with his devotion that he provided sheep instead of his son.
So, in commemoration of this devotion, an animal is sacrificed and divided into three parts
One third of the share is given to the poor and needy;
Another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbors;
And the remaining third is retained by the family.
This is how the celebration is marked with joys of sacrifice with devoted hearts.

Family, relatives, friends and all
Come together under a roof to stay tall
Sharing of merriment with bewilderment
In this time of festival, bonding with all.

It’s a beautiful morning
The time has come to celebrate Eid al Adha
The festival of sacrifice
Which is the holiest of two major Islamic festivals celebrated worldwide.
