Why Youths Are Wildly Possessed With Drug Addiction

People aged from 14 to 21 are generally termed youths. It’s a phase of life between childhood and adulthood. This is the particular age group when an individual learns lots of new things. They have an urge to get new experiences and explore new ideas and things. They tend to hit both positive as well as negative sides while learning and experiencing. Out of many negative experiences, drug intake has been a burning issue in teenagers’ life.

To your knowledge, a drug is a chemical substance that causes a change in an organism’s physiology or psychology when consumed. It’s of different types based on the mode of consumption. Inhalation, injection, smoking, ingestion, absorption through a patch on the skin, dissolution under the tongue, etc. are some of the consumption methods.

Whereas, the pharmaceutical drug is those kinds of drugs used in treatment or curing of disease. They are generally sold in pharmacy stores all around. Today, we aren’t talking about pharmaceutical drugs, we are talking about drugs that harm us either way.

How it Turns Into Drug Addiction

We’ve seen youths using drugs for entertainment purposes. They take it out of curiosity and without their sense, it changes into an addiction. Some reasons why youths start using drugs are:

  • Trying New Trends and recreating movie scenes of their favorite actors
  • Peer Pressure or influence,
  • Out of curiosity about drugs and their impact
  • Stress, anger, or tragedy

Youth are active and they are quick learners. The intake drugs for any reason, and before they are aware of its impacts, it turns into their new addiction.

Effects of Drugs

Consumption of Drugs affects inversely on the human body. It causes a change in both physical and mental states. Chemicals used in drugs are very addicting, dangerous, and harmful. Some cause hallucinations when taken and some can kill if consumed overdose.

Tripping on drugs may seem fun but it has many negative effects. People on drugs tend to have weak consciousness. Usually, they’re unaware of their regular activities.

In Nepal also, many youths have been victims of drug addiction.  Some have even lost their lives in their early phase of teenage due to heavy consumption of drugs.

Yes, buying and selling drugs in Nepal is illegal and they are expensive too. But it’s sold illegally under our tables and teenagers are consuming them more than how much we can assume.

We hear news and gossips about youths who’re found stealing money for drugs. In worst cases, they’re found guilty of murdering and committing crimes due to drug consumption or in name of drugs.

Preventive Measures of Drug Consumption

I am a youth too. In my words and experience, drug consumption can be controlled and avoided with a few tactics and steps of concerned authorities.

  • Find ways/alternatives to stop illegal drug trading and sales
  • Penalize both the seller and the buyer
  • Search for the chain of drug dealers and consumers and raid their sources.
  • Drug rehabilitation centers and schools, colleges should collaboratively organize awareness programs to stop its consumption an early age.

Even if someone is found involved in drug activities, they should be guided and helped to overcome their addiction.

It’s true that overcoming drug addiction is difficult but, it is not impossible.

To those struggling with drug addiction or who consume drugs I say, don’t ruin your life, consuming things that are ruining you every day.
