One word, they said
One word is all it takes,
Everything you do, everything you say, everything
You feel, it all revolves around that one word
And it’s never too easy to say it, no
It’s never too easy to say it because it screws you over and over
Again and again, just like clockwork
It messes you up and chases you down
As though you mean nothing in front of it, as though
You mean nothing in front of you
It crosses you over and pushes you back as though
You mean nothing to it, as though
You mean nothing to you
It pulls you back and forth and spins you around
as though You can’t even take control of it,
You can’t even take control of you
And it’s still never too easy to say it
To believe it, and to have to live under its shadows,
It’s never too simple to breathe as its
storm tries to blow you away with every single step you take
And every little bone you break.
It’s never too pleasing to realize
That you’ve built your entire life,
Everything you do, everything you say, and everything
You feel around it.
And I could just tell you that it doesn’t matter
But then it does, it does matter
As it breaks you down, it makes you stronger
As it holds you back, it makes you braver,
As it circles you right across,
It makes you believe that you can do so much more than just be scared
You can do, do much more than just be “scared”
