Let’s be A Football Team | Poem by Anuska Khadka

“United we are strong,
Divide we are the weakest!”-Is the motto of every team.

Before the match,
Brothers howl for their brothers,
Making circle,
Swearing that they are sons of proud mothers.

Then in the ground when
The whistle blows,
Both the team focuses on the ball that glows,
But when an opponent comes for a shot
The whole team unites as a single lot.

Eyes on the ball and nothing more
No ego, no hatred, no faking
That’s when the team rises from its core.

Passing the ball on the exact foot
Giving opponent no chance to shoot
Playing the best of your role.
That’s when a team scores its finest goal.
That’s when the team becomes the best.
That’s when the becomes stronger than the rest.

So, I question you here,
Are you ready to be a football team?
Are you ready to unite as one, no matter how tough it may seem?

We are daughters and sons who call ourselves as proud Nepali.
We are the descendants of the brave Gorkhali.
We all have the same blood from the same father,
And this land gives us the same love who we might be rather.

But see, we have divided ourselves making lines,
We have restricted people from the bond that binds.
Madhesi, Janajati, Dalit, Bahun, Chettri ,Sudra
What will this even mean?
If we don’t have our country
Calling Nepali might be a past thing!

The same patriotism that runs in everyone’s blood,
Is the one running in you,
No one has any rights to question his fellow brother,
If they have the same love for their country too….
Coz’ yes! We all do.

So, the time has come for us to unite
As a football team
No matter who we are, we play an equal role to

Achieve the country’s dream.

If we split for our own reasons of biasness and ego
We will lose our match
And from our country, we will forever be detached.

But if we unite to win the game
There will be no one left to blame.
No one to be a reason for shame,
And our soil will give us the pride of our name.

So remember, like in a football game
“United we are strong,
Divided we are the weakest!”
JAI NEPAL!
