Delusions of a lunatic | Samikshya Shukla

Written by Samikshya Shukla

“It exists!”
With vehemence, she speaks.
Sparkling, as if bathed in glitter,
she spins and leaps in rapture.
The curve her lips stretch to,
Not an act, Not this time.
Dazzled by the sight before her,
forsaking all she had been,
she sits down to admire-
A perfect world, long awaited,
The utopia forever fantasized.

“Delusions of a lunatic!”
With apathy, I exclaim.
Eerie chills run down the spine.
Do I tell her?
It is not perfect,
only broken, with more left to break.
Do I wake her, from her dream,
drag her down to reality?
Show her how odious it is,
filled with ashes left by the flames.
Or, Do I let her rejoice?

Perhaps, I join in.
Be part of her rhapsody.
Marvel at the flicker,
burrowing into the shadows,
beaming with a smile,
I had long forgotten.
