The outbreak of Covid-19 has lead the world into dilemmas and trilemmas. It has threatened almost all the scenarios including socio-economic, political scenarios, and the entire global situation. A huge toll of the population lost their lives and millions of people are having difficult times joining their hands to mouth. Adding the research of the World Bank, it’s predicted that by the end of 2020, 265 million people will be under the poverty line. Along with that, Bloomberg economics has already warned that “full-year GDP growth could all go to zero in a worst-case pandemic scenario.” This depicts the pathetic situation of the globe even after the post-pandemic situation. Entrepreneurship has been the emerging trend in economies that have made the world enter into the era of science and technologies with innovative technologies. But, it’s depressing that the business as well as the entrepreneurship sector has halted due to the pandemic.
Connecting this with the most awaited campaign of Nepal i.e. Visit Nepal 2020 which aimed at focusing tourists and flourishing Nepal to make its culture recognize in the international front but it’s transferred to 2022 due to the pandemic. More than seven lakhs people are jobless due the outbreak of Covid-19. Mental illness has been continuously increasing and suicidal rates are increasing at an alarming rate. Nepal’s GDP growth rate will likely decelerate from 7.1% in 2019 to 2.8% for 2020. It reflects the worsening situation of the developing countries. However, it’s rightly said that there are some hidden opportunities and solutions even in the worst situation. This can be relevant in this situation.
Agriculture has been the supporting backbone in our country since the early past where 90% of the people depended on agriculture to earn their livelihood. Although the percentage of people enrolled in agriculture has declined it has been continuously serving as the primary source of employment and generates around 33% of GDP. It plays pivotal role to increase income, alleviate poverty and uplift the living standard of people. In fact, agriculture is the panacea to heal our economy and get back to the normal position after the pandemic. In the present context, many Nepalese stuck in the foreign countries desperately want to return back in their own country, this will increase the unemployment level in the later stage. This can be solved if the government formulate constructively and embracing quick, smart, and innovative policies and deploy the youth in agriculture. It can provide the cornerstone for thriving village economies.
Not only in agriculture, but it is also a perfect time to create various plans and policies to relish domestic tourism. Nepal is one of the leading remittance recipient countries in the world. We can’t rely on remittance now so have to find out alternatives. Despite this, we can see various progress in Nepal. For the very first time, our traditional education system has been transformed into an online educational system which was “pipe- dream” in the past. Nonetheless, it also has some loopholes, however, it shows that the developing nation too can have this kind of system in teaching which was never thought of. Various organizations are running various free sessions, trainings and webinars to create more awareness to develop prosperous Nepal. Along with this, the flourishing online market and shopping have become a trend in Nepal which gives a message that more people are getting used to with this new culture of Online System. The most used online app in Nepal is Daraz which has strategically formulated plans and policies to attract Nepalese customers to use its various products. Adding my own experience, the new online store Gopasal has made it possible to get the fruits and vegetables booked and get it free delivered at home.
Global warming and climate change have become an another challenging issue in the entire globe. The lockdown situation throughout the world has reduced this challenging factor and the hole of the ozone layer has reduced which invites the better and green world. Taking the example of the global business scenarios, one of the leading business M &S (Marks & Spenser) has predicted that the global scenario of shopping will never be the same because people will majorly focus on the fulfillment of basic needs. However, people have changed their shopping habits in malls, avoiding the crowds, and getting used to in the online stores.
Various global leaders have been doing wonderful jobs. They have been conducting various webinars and training sessions to empower peoples which in fact is playing a wondrous role in reducing the gap between the developed and developing nations. As per the modernization theory, we are getting golden opportunities to imitate their advances and in a way has applied the slogan in practice i.e. “Think globally, act globally.” The renowned university like- Harvard University, has been providing free online courses and has provided a good chance to educate students from various platforms about intercultural communication in studies.
The world has understood the importance of female leadership from the leading example of Netherland prime minister, throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen secured the trust and love of her people. As mentioned earlier, innovative and creative entrepreneurship ideas are coming into practice. What I personally feel is along with the advances in science and technologies, people have lost the morals and value of family support and existence. The pandemic world has taught them to have quality time with the family where they can relish and cherish the ecstasy moment. Likewise, the increasing obesity has also become a global concern where people enjoy having junk and fries than organic ones. Well, the pandemic has even taught them to enjoy the self- cooked food and have a small kitchen gardening to produce their own food and vegetables. Hundreds of people used to lose lives daily which has completely reduced to zero and a positive aspect to a better world.
As a part of the conclusion, I would like to highlight that let’s be productive enough in this pandemic world and enhance self-learning. It’s also said that, “Self-learning is the best learning.” So, rather than just munching things and watching movies and series, it’s a wonderful time to gain knowledge through various journals, articles, and books. In nutshell, let’s not waste our time and utilize the opportunity of pandemic situations.
