The news nowadays is full of reports on corona virus. Everyone is panicking and scared. In this scenario, doing our duty and creating awareness will definitely help.
Social media plays vital role in spreading the rumors or myths and disinformation regarding this disease. There are numbers of myths, in our scenario some are most common and thought to be true among which I’m going to explain (as per source of WHO).
- Exposing yourself to the sun or to temperatures higher than 25 degree does not prevent the corona virus disease.
- Being able to hold your breath for 10 seconds or more without coughing or feeling discomfort DOES NOT mean you are free from the corona virus disease.
- Taking a hot bath does not prevent the new corona virus disease. Actually, taking a hot bath with extremely hot water can be harmful. It might even burn you.
- Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body will not kill the corona virus that has already entered your body. Spraying such substances can be harmful to clothes or mucous membranes i.e. eyes, mouth. Be aware that both can be useful to disinfect surfaces only.
- Only older adults and young people are at risk is not true. Older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions (asthma, diabetes, and heart disease) appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus but it can spread among any.
- 5G networks DO NOT spread COVID-19. Viruses cannot travel on radio waves/mobile networks. COVID-19 is spreading in many countries that do not have 5G mobile networks. It spreads through respiratory droplets.
Our Duty
What else can we do sitting at home during the pandemic. Limit ourselves to watching news and reading social media posts? We blame someone is doing wrong, few are doing corruption and many are not doing their duty well. But instead of just commenting and pointing out others mistake we can do our duty to minimize the effect.
We can help poor and helpless people who are suffering due to the lock-down. If anybody is trying to provide free services, we can help them financially by donating as much as we can/wish.
If someone is staying on a rent, or has a vendor shop, deduct their monthly rent for few months. A person with a store can support by selling their items in low rate or lend them goods for few time. Point is to help others from any way possible.
If anybody has symptoms of the virus, help them reach for medical help. Kindly, don’t disrespect them or show inappropriate behavior.
Respect the police, medical and cleaning staffs and all those who are working for betterment of the country’s situation.
Our major responsibilites:
During lock-down everyone must stay at home. Prefer go out only for emergency purpose.
Maintain social distancing.
Spend time with family. Help them in household works.
Be aware of symptoms like fever, cough, or difficulty breathing. In such case, contact medical team or your local health authority, or your national health helpline.
If you have come from abroad recently, disclose your travel history to healthcare provider and seek for medical test immediately.
By your small help and contribution, we can stop the spread of COVID19.
