11 Best Movies of Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan was an Indian movie star, whose works are internationally appreciated. If you haven’t watched his works, these are my personal favorite movies starring Irrfan Khan.

 

1. The Lunch Box (2013)

 

A box office success movie written by Ritesh Batra starring Irrfan Khan is an epistolary romantic movie. This is one of my favorite works of Irrfan Khan.

IMDb rating: 7.8/10

Plot:  I found this story very interesting as the story took place in Mumbai where lunchbox delivery mistakenly connects a lonely widower and an unhappy housewife. They exchange notes through the lunchbox and develop a pen-pal relationship.

 

2. Paan Singh Tomar (2012)

I personally recommend you to watch this movie first. It was directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. The Paan Singh Tomar is a movie of an athlete. If you don’t know this film also won the Best Feature Film and Best Actor in the 60th National Film Awards 2012.

IMDb rating: 8.2/10

Plot: Based on a true story of an athlete, who won a gold medal at the Indian National Game but later was forced to become a rebellion of the system. Every part of the story is appealing and worth watching.

 

3. Hindi Medium (2017)

Initially released on May 19, 2017, film HINDI MEDIUM starring Irrfan Khan is a comedy-drama movie. It receives a positive response from the critics. I enjoyed this movie a lot.

Plot: In the story, the protagonist couple wish to admit their child to a precious English-medium school. Unfortunately, they get rejected in the interview round due to their poor English. If you haven’t watched this movie yet, I don’t want to spoil the story. Watch it yourself to find what happened next.

 

4. Talvar (2015)

Internationally released as Guilty, Talvar is a thriller drama movie based on a Noida(India) double murder case involving a teenage girl and her family servant. The movie is of 113 minutes.

IMDb rating: 8.2/10

Plot: The plot revolves around the investigation of the murder cases of a 14-year girl where parents are the prime suspects. An experienced investigator tries to pull the case using several theories and perspectives.

 

5. Qarib Qarib Singlle (2017)

Directed by Tanuja Chandra and produced by Zee Studios, the movie ‘Qarib Qarib Singlle’ starring Irrfan Khan and Parvathy Thiruvothu is a romantic Hindi comedy film.

IMDb rating: 7/10

Plot: A 35-year-old widow enrolls herself on a dating website where she meets Yogendra(protagonist). I loved the movie’s taste of comedy. The story revolves around a short journey of 2 strangers.

 

 

6. Life of Pi(2012)

An adventure drama movie based on a novel by Yann Martel is directed by Ang Lee. The movie earned over US$609 million worldwide.

IMDb rating: 7.9/10

Plot: Pi(protagonist) explain an adventure journey of him and a Bengal tiger surviving on a lifeboat that took months to complete their journey. I got very inspired by the courageous story of this young boy.

 

 

7. Mumbai Meri Jaan (2008)

Directed by Nishikanth Kamath starring Irrfan Khan and Paresh Rawal, this movie won multiple Filmfare Awards.

IMDb rating: 7.7/10

Plot: Story revolves around the Mumbai train bombing where 5 lives of strangers got affected and how they tackled the tragic incident in their lives.

 

 

8. Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

A British crime film directed by Danny Boyle based on a loose adaptation of novel Q & A. The movie is widely praised and won 7 BAFTA Awards.

IMDb rating: 8/10

Plot: One of the great movies of Irrfan Khan, the film tells a story of teenager from a slum who becomes the contestant of ‘who will be a millionaire’ and win a grand prize. The journey to get there and struggle he had to face throughout the life is beautifully portrayed. I have watched this movie 2 times and I still enjoy every time I watch this movie.

 

9. D-Day (2013)

Released in 2013, D-Day is an action thriller film directed by Nikkhil Advani. The movie is starring Arjun Rampal, Irrfan Khan, Shruti Haasan, Rishi Kapoor, and Huma Qureshi.

IMDb rating: 7.2/10

Plot: 4 intelligence officers set on a mission to track down India’s most wanted criminal. This action movie is goddamn good.

 

10. Madaari (2016

 

A film by Nishikant Kamat, Madaari is a social thriller movie. ‘Dama Dama Dam’ and ‘Masoon Sa’ are famous songs from his movie.

IMDb rating: 7.5/10

Plot: A rebellious film where Nirmal(protagonist) kidnaps a son of home minister to take revenge from the government as he lost his son due to the negligence of the government.

 

11. Haider (2014)

Haider is an Indian Crime Drama movie starring Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, and Tabu. It was the first Indian Film to win People’s Choice award at the Rome Film Festival.

IMDb rating: 8.1/10

Plot: Hey, seriously I don’t want to share the plot of this particular film. I found this film is flawless. Watch it for yourself if you haven’t. I am sure you will love it. This is one of the best films Irrfan Khan has played role in.

Unfortunately, Irrfan Khan left us today (29 April 2020) at age 53. He was a prominent actor who produced hit after hit movies.

His works and dedication in the movie industry will always be remembered and praised.
