Studying abroad is one of the most anticipated things one can do as a student. Lots of excitement, hopes, and dreams look like coming true. But on the flip side, getting through the first year of your abroad study life can be challenging.

The language restrictions, financial limitations, and differences in the education system can make it harder to settle in. Being mentally and emotionally prepared can help you escape the agony of being abroad during the first year. Here are some helpful tips that can help you survive your first year abroad without much stress.

 

1. Don’t afraid to make new friends

Don’t skip your first-week “orientation week/fresher’s week. This is an excellent opportunity to make new friends and get to know other international students. Get to know a lot of students and join the international student’s club or network. Connect to new people as much as possible and make a network to socialize with.

 

2. Learn to be more independent

Are you the one who is used to having everything done for you? Can you do your laundry? Can you cook food? Are you comfortable with doing the dishes? If not, its time to get prepared. Start doing it today otherwise you be prepared for the rough times abroad.

 

3. Be responsible

Behave carefully and responsibly. Many challenges and opportunities can come your way when studying abroad. You need to be patient, thoughtful, and show maturity while making decisions every time. Neglecting silly things can cause you in trouble.

 

4. Focus on your study

Studying is an essential part of a university. Attend the library and lab with friends. That will help you to make a strong bond with other students. You get to share ideas. Socializing and partying is a part of student life but don’t let these things make your study fall by the wayside.

 

5. Practical language

If your study destination is a country where your first language is not spoken, then you should consider learning the local language. It can make your life way more accessible by increasing your interaction level with the local students and people. Also, being proficient at additional language is always a plus point for your career.

 

6. Be cautious about spending habit

Studying abroad is always gives you some financial load. International education is expensive, especially when you have a reputed university. Student loans and self-funding may not be enough at times. Try to cut off the unnecessary expenses. Make sure you spend on something essential.

 

7. Stay healthy

It is imperative to stay fit and healthy, especially when you are in the first year of your international student. You don’t want to get ill or ruin your health easily because that will pull you down on your studies and work schedule. Eat well, exercise regularly, take proper rest, hydrate your body regularly. After all “health is the greatest wealth”.
