I wish | Poem by Chirag Majithia

I wish, I wish, I wish

In this rain a pretty girl I see

Drenched and cold, she’d ask

‘Can I walk with you a bit?’

Me being lonely, tired and nervous

Would reply a ‘why not’

And together we’d start

On a 30 minute walk

While walking, an awkward silence ensued

And she being observant, noticed my hand

Tied around, a band and to break the silence

She’d ask, ‘What is that?’

The band, a merch, and me, a fan

Would start answering like in a test

And after a bit more chatter,

Discover mutual topics of interest

We’d talk more, and laugh a bit

Even getting occasional stares

While we reach her home, we’d exchange number

And I’d ask myself, ‘Will we ever meet again?’

Friday night I’d get a call

Turns out it was that pretty girl.

Flustered and stuttering, she’d ask

‘Wanna go for a movie & popcorn?’

Me, nervous yet excited

Responded with a prompt ‘Yes!’

She’d laugh and when we’d meet

All I’d see would be her pretty face.

In the hall, we’d share some popcorn

And like in movies, our hand would meet

We’d shrug, share an awkward laugh

And think, ‘Was this meant to be?’

Soon after, we’d start dating

Maybe even start a family together

But then again, it’s merely a wish

I could hope to have gotten.
